Versatility
If there's one thing that my company understands, it's the versatility of chemical engineers. This week, I found out that chemical engineers are working in microfluidics (of course), in process engineering (of course), in assay development (the director, my co-worker and me), in hardware engineering, and in project management.
And your education does not necessarily determine your career path either. Two of our great software developers (in my amateur's opinion) majored in EE.
It just goes to show that it is possible to find out what you love to do post-college and pursue it, even if your degree doesn't match up.
