Job Search Update

Many people have been asking me lately how it's been going. Here's a quick update.

Guidant/Abbott Vascular: Since my last post, I've called HR back. The HR person basically told me to wait and he said that he'll contact me if the hiring managers are interested. I also heard that my former co-worker's roommate works at Guidant in Santa Clara. I called him to get some more info about the company.

City of Hope Cancer Center and Beckman Research Institute: I applied to the research associate II position last week. It's in the High-Throughput Core center. They called me today to schedule a phone interview. The pros: many of my current skills will transfer over and I will be working in a cancer research center. The latter is exciting because I wanted to work in an area that takes me closer to the patient.

That's good news, but why do you need or want Guidant/Abbot?

ss, here are the cons: This will likely be a support position for other scientists' research, so there is less innovation.

joseph, I was interested in Guidant/Abbott because it seems like a good stepping stone to make myself more marketable to the wide range of medical device companies down in SoCal. I've seen at least 5 medical device companies clustered in the Irvine area.
