I don't wanna grow up
...cuz I'm a Toys R Us kid. There's millions of toys that I can play with.
After all these years, that jingle still sticks in my head.
That's what I feel like today. I am a larger version of a kid playing with toys. My toys just happen to be the prototype instruments that my company has invested R&D money in. In this new phase of the project, I get to put the prototype instruments to the test. I get to run them at the extremes: extreme temperature, extreme humidity, long weekend runs, etc. And of course, I'll find bugs along the way. I don't mind finding bugs cuz the really exciting part of this job is the investigation. How come this instrument runs 10 seconds longer than the one next to it, given the same commands? How come the timing is off? Why is the electrophoretic separation different between this instrument and that one? Is it due to temperature differences, viscosity differences, or differences in evaporation? (Sorry if I'm sounding too geeky.) I love the puzzle-finding, investigative, problem-solving aspect of the job. ;)

I can remember that toys r us song, too--very catchy. But I'd rather play with model trains than lab instrument, though. :)
