New York - Day 1

We started off the day early by going to the Met. It was so huge that we could have spent the whole day there. One of the highlights was the Temple of Dendur, moved stone by stone from Egypt. It was given as a gift to the US by Egypt in 1965, and awarded to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1967.

Another highlight were the immense metal sculptures on the roof by Jeff Koons. That candy heart looks good enough to break open and eat.

In the afternoon, we went to Chad and Ada's wedding. It was lovely. There were lots of interesting ceremony touches that I hadn't seen before. For instance, the bridesmaids wore hand corsages and carried lanterns with a large candle inside instead of carrying bouquets. And instead of the unity candle, the couple used colored pebbles in a large cylindrical glass vase. The moms added their colored pebbles on the bottom of the pile, then a bridesmaid and a groomsman added their colored pebbles to the pile, and then Chad and Ada added their pebbles. It symbolized that their marriage was supported by their friends and family. The minister then mixed up the pebbles inside the glass vase to symbolize the combining of two lives into one.

Congratulations to Chad and Ada!
